Hair affair

Ladies, promise me not to go anywhere near L’Oreal Total Repair 5 shampoo. It smells good and that’s about it. I picked it up in a hurry once and absolutely regret it. It’s out of my sight now. My hair felt really dry every time I used it and I got tired of picking up my hair from every corner of the house.

Don't go near it

Now, the irony is that the product I’ve been using for over three years to add a little gloss to my hair every now and then is also a L’Oreal product – L’Oreal Techni-Mix Sublime Serum. And I must tell you it’s the ONLY haircare product I use besides shampoo.

Love the shine and volume it adds to hair.

This anti-frizz serum is non-greasy, makes your hair look absolutely stunning… whether you style them pretty or leave them to be. Here’s the proof:

The serum makes even unkempt/out of bed hair look shiny.

What this experience makes me sort of realize is that may be it’s about the price difference. I was actually shocked to see a L’Oreal shampoo being sold for just Rs 110 because the serum costs approximately Rs. 900. Just a thought – may be, quality does come at a price!

In my next post I’m going to talk about my dream shampoo. For real!

Dinner for one!

Sometimes it’s great to eat alone… it’s your opportunity to pamper yourself. I know most girls don’t enjoy it but I actually relish it. May be because I have lived alone for a few years or may be because in my heart I’m actually a loner.
Anyway, Kesh’s working late today so I had to have dinner alone so here’s what I ate – Pasta in white sauce with Veuve Clicquot 1998 vintage champagne merrily stirred into it, served with sautéed mushrooms and rocket. It was delicious… if I can say so myself!

Simple white sauce pasta made special with a generous helping of my favourite vintage champagne.

It was delicious! If I say so myself...

Deep into the night

What’s your favourite look for a night out? For me, I have a hot new favourite: a brilliant combination of scarlet red lips with deep/navy blue accessories. Hot or not?

Look Ma, I found a goldmine!

Fashion sketches are something I have always fancied. Even as an 8 year old girl in a REALLY small town in India, I remember being mesmerized by this Ritu Beri sketch in a magazine that my aunt got from Delhi. I think a well done sketch is as poetic as those first 3 lines a writer writes on a piece of tissue-paper before turning it into a bestseller because that’s where the story really begins, of beautiful clothes and fashion as a whole.
So, I literally jumped with joy when I stumbled upon New York based Fashion Institute of Technology’s flickr album containing archived Dior sketches from iconic fashion store – Bergman Goodman. I spent an hour just staring at these beautiful sketches and later realized they had more albums showcasing the sketches of many other genius design houses like Chanel, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Balmain and Cardin (what happened to Cardin? well, that’s another story). I have picked some of my favourite sketches (I’m Picky C after all, remember? :P). Here they are, enjoy.

Dior Trapeze Dress

Dior three piece gray suit

Balmain strapless red evening gown in pencil and watercolor

Chanel multicolored tweed suit with matching purple blouse

Lanvin unfitted coat

Now for some really beautiful, witty sketches by Bonnie Cashin. They speak so much about her personality as a very fashion fluent woman with a lovely sense of humor.

Bonnie Cashin "Cash and Carries" for Coach.

Bonnie Cashin Sketch- "False alarm tiger"

Bonnie Cashin - parabola cape

Bonnie Cashin - "Patchwork party" coat

For the love of men!

Text by Sarah Coles – friend/ advertising junkie/ fashion enthusiast:

Whether you want to buy your boyfriend a Burberry coat or a pair of socks, there’s now an upmarket site for boys to look upmarket. No more complaining about not having as much choice as us girls. No – no more. Mr Porter has arrived and since we live in an age where most boys born after 1980 are metros, I’m sure it’ll do fabulous. Yes Mr Porter is here and he ships to India. He has finally followed his wife’s footsteps and is not ashamed to do so. Quite rightfully filling the sizeable gap in the market for men all over the world to finally have choice…style… and advice on fashion. A site they can look up to… design their own looks… manage wardrobe… share styles with their mates… and create wishlists… and….wow is this really a good thing?! I still like my man as the clueless Stella drinker thanks. However, bottom line – it’s a great site for us girls to buy great stuff for our beautiful, silly men.

Now for some of Picky C’s picks from Mr Porter. She claims if men in India dressed like this, they wouldn’t have to try nearly as hard.

PERSOLS - So hot!! Perfect for the Indian summer.
