What’s Fashion Week Without Some Drunky Fun

Just got back from WIFW A/W 2013 and as always there were brilliant shows, good shows, bad shows, friends and some drunken fun. Although I must admit I didn’t party every night as I used to (I guess this is what turning thirty means) but the two nights I did, I made ‘em count.

Here’s the quick look at all the drunken moments. Feel free to laugh!

Love at first sight.

The moment I saw these emerald earrings, I fell head over heels in love with them. There’s something about gold and emerald that I just can’t resist. I wore these with a cream Zara lace dress for a brunch with my sesky little friend Anu and her friend Zaru who joined us briefly.

With Anu

We brunched at Dome at The Intercontinental, Marine Drive. The view was spectacular but the food and service weren’t that great. We decided to order champagne as the Sangria from the brunch menu was  flat and watery. Also, the billing wasn’t very transparent. Anyway with some help from the view, many glasses of bubbly and good music, it turned into a super evening.

Coming back to the earrings, have you picked up anything you adore? Share share…

Love,
C

Chronicles of a picky traveler – Istanbul

In June 2009, Istanbul (Turkey) felt like the best place ever for my birthday week. A keen boyfriend, mellow sunshine, cozy evening breeze, sparkling blue sea, delicious bread, amazing heritage, old world inspired sartorial sensibilities and just the right amount of friendly, I couldn’t have asked for more. I know you’re wondering what’s bread doing on that list. I am a picky traveler (vegetarian at that) and bread, for me, is one of the most important criteria for rating a place, restaurants and cities. Istanbul impressed me with great bread, culture, tea, architecture, wine and more.

I can’t even begin to tell you how simple yet delicious her rolls with freshly made bread, local cheese and spinach were.

We did the usual touristy things like enjoying the Bosphorus Cruise and visiting the gorgeous Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, Galata Tower etc. Seeped in history, each one of these landmarks had a story to tell but what I really loved was long walks around the stoned by-lanes bustling with people dressed in what looked like a simmering fusion of romantic vintage and slick modern.

Obelisk of Theodosius at the Hippodrome square (also called Atmeydanı in Turkish).

Galata Tower

Blue Mosque is a piece of art. The main dome adorned with minarets and the beautiful stained glass windows and İznik tiles paint a pretty picture.

Pretty streets of Istanbul.

Street fashion.

I love visiting cities where even the smallest things are well designed. This golden foot rest didn’t come out of necessity, it’s come from the love for what his work.

Gotta love these stickers inside Instabul BRT metro.

I couldn’t believe that they still have wooden trams running (very very slowly) in certain areas. It was an experience to hop on it.

The Bosphorus during the sunset. Breathtaking!

Sun-downers took a whole new meaning in those cafes and restaurants overlooking the Bosporus, offering fresh local cuisine, tea and wine. The last evening in the city was also my birthday. We went to a highly recommended restaurant called 360. It overlooked the city and at night it looked like we were in the company of a zillion twinkling stars. While sipping on good ol Veuve, Mr. Naidu popped ‘the’ question. 6 months later we became Mr and Mrs Naidu!

Since Istanbul, I have been to many cities in different countries and no matter how exotic they were, they couldn’t manage to replace my love for Istanbul. I would love to go back to see all the places I missed due to lack of time and just soak in some more of Istanbul. I am totally up for some more Turkish delight. Amen.

Oh, the charming oldies! :)

The curious case of Julia Gillard and her shoes.

I am going to say this with a straight face – visiting Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard tripped and fell on the grass during her visit to Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Rajghat y’day. Now apparently it wasn’t the first misadventure with shoea and heels. She famously lost a blue suede shoe during an Aboriginal demonstration in Canberra in January. She was being whisked away from protesters and her footwear later turned up on eBay! More recently, according to Hindustan Times she slipped out of one of her shoes as she was taking the stage at an event in Sydney. She was reported saying she was distracted by admiring how another woman in higher heels had managed to negotiate the steps.

Anyway, the truth is that every woman who has tried to wear heels has fumbled. I have had friends who just won’t go out partying with me if I wore heels as they always had to carry my shoes while helping me walk to a cab. Alcohol kind of played a part in it but that’s another story. But wait a second why am I using the past tense? Just a few days ago, during Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week I was walking like a chicken in my heels. Kept tripping now and then (thankfully I didn’t fall) and eventually walked out of Pragati Maidan barefeet.

I wouldn’t say I didn’t laugh after watch Julia Gillard’s shoe tripping video (below) but a part of me went, “oh shit that could have been me!!!!” So basically what I am trying to say is ‘Julia (since I get you, we’re going to be on the first name basis now) I know heels can be total bitches but you gotta get into their inner circle of trust real quickly. Just ask mama Carla Bruni Sarkozy for a tutorial, I’m sure she’ll be happy to help!’ And one more thing, “Thank you for Masterchef Australia”

xoxo
