I’m a two kohl-pencil girl. I like to keep one at home and carry the other one in my bag. I do this for one simple reason – I’m always running late. So kajal application is mostly done while in transportation.
The kajal in my bag is Estée Lauder automatic eyeliner duo. I am an Estée loyalist when it comes to eyeliners but a couple of months back, a friend introduced me to Maybelline Colossal kajal. It rocked my world for one tenth the price.
Colossal became my home kajal for many months and just recently I ran out of it. So when I got the opportunity to compare Lakmé Eyeconic kajal to Colossal, I had to give it a shot. Here’s what I felt:
P& P (Price and Packaging): Both are attractively packaged and priced. Maybelline Colossal kajal is priced at Rs 150 while Lakmé Eyeconic costs Rs 199.
Shape: Although Eyeconic is black, sleek and sexy, it’s a bit too skinny to hold and use. May be I feel so because I’m not a very artistic person, I need a wider grip to ensure that I am in control of my liner.
Availability: It’s almost scary where all you can find people selling Colossal kajal. I mean seriously, I saw a dude selling it at a traffic light. As much as I would like to easily find my favourite kajal, I wouldn’t like to shop for it at a traffic light. I am pretty sure they’re selling fakes. Eyeconic, in the meanwhile, is sitting on the other end of the spectrum. I have’t really noticed it in stores, it could be because colossal’s yellow packaging tends to overpower your vision.
Product: To be honest, none of the above points matter to me as long as the product is solid! Both are smooth but have to say Lakmé Eyeconic is smoother and more moist. It spreads evenly as well but it doesn’t last as long as Colossal kajal. Also Eyeconic’s promise of single sweep loveliness doesn’t hold true. You have to apply it a couple of times to get the desired result.
Appearance after usage: All products look pretty in the beginning, it’s only after you’ve used them for a while you get the real picture. That’s my problem with Colossal, the yellow packaging in fun but it looks really shabby after sometime especially ‘cuz the Kajal tends to break off quite a bit. Eyeconic, on the other hand has a really narrow tip opening which means lesser mess which you can’t really see ‘cuz the packaging is black.
So it’ll be a tough decision to choose between Lakmé Eyeconic and Maybelline Colossal as my next home kajal. They’re just too similar as products go and both are quite good but I think I’ll go with Lakmé Eyeconic. It smudges less, breaks less and glides on ever so smoothly. Have you tried them on? I would love to hear about your experience of using either of these products.
Love,
C
P.S Yes that’s my new haircut… bangs and all…like?

Oh my god you are back picky!! I can’t tell you which kajal I like as I don’t use it as much as I would love. But you say lakme so lakme it is!
I ordered Lakme eyeconic kajal via COD option and it was the first experience with Flipkart and I am really happy with Flipkart fast delivery process. Kajal is awesome and extremely dark and creamy.I really liked the Kajal and it is better than colossal kajal. If you are looking for darkest kajal then it will be the best choice.
hello, fantastic blog post. Please keep them coming..
thanks for the review.. would rilli buy lakme this time.. cos maybelline collosal has really upset me for a particular reason.. i mean i just love the smudgre free thing, the darkness and all, but this is my third stick and the same prob of the stick either not retracting back once up or stuck inside n not coming up..when i bought the 1st cud use it for jus a week’s time as the pncil broke when i tried to check its length.. 2nd time the stick wont go back in once popped up a bit too more,, third time i was a bit careful,, i din open it up that much,, lasted for jus 2 months n now the stick is stuck n the kajal wont come out,, goes back in n comes til just the surface,, but doesn come out at all.. i keep rotating the stick in loops but just doent come out,, m so fed up of this,,if this faulty pencil rotation is fixed i have no problems with collosal..any1 else facing same prob let me know,,n also let me know if u could fix it.
Well wearing an eye make up is must for me.I have used colossal earlier and must say it was nice but lakhme iconic is much better in terms of smoothness and quality.
very nice informative article. i think lakme is better then others..!!
because it’s liner is very thin and clear and glossy
tis s an awesome review, and yes u shuld go fr lakme eyeconic kajal and one thing abt lakme is its so tough to remove the eyeliner in one wash
i tried lakme its nt so effective or nt long lasting
it does nt lasts even two hrs n my eyes
OHHH! my experience was totally opposite colozssal stayed longer than Lakme iconic ! plus iconic smudged faster and messier than colossal. My vote stands for colossal :)
