I think so! 18 months of non-stop planning lead to the King Kong of pop-up collaborations. Right from beautifully curated windows with miniature Tower Bridge and revolving London Eye made of Miss Dior perfume bottles to iconic vintage dresses worn by Elizabeth Taylor, Princess Diana, Audrey Hepburn and Rita Hayworth, the store has it all and a lot more. Somehow words don’t do justice to this collaboration of epic proportions, you have to take a look at their inaugural video…
Update: I just found out that the pop-up will be open to public till the 14th of April, 2013. Run, rush, fly…
Can you imagine – A Hollywood comedy for Dior directed by John Cameron Mitchell??!! Can’t wait for the video but till then we got to make do with the ‘making of’ L.A.dy Dior. Oh and there’s a quick teaser too!
Fashion sketches are something I have always fancied. Even as an 8 year old girl in a REALLY small town in India, I remember being mesmerized by this Ritu Beri sketch in a magazine that my aunt got from Delhi. I think a well done sketch is as poetic as those first 3 lines a writer writes on a piece of tissue-paper before turning it into a bestseller because that’s where the story really begins, of beautiful clothes and fashion as a whole.
So, I literally jumped with joy when I stumbled upon New York based Fashion Institute of Technology’s flickr album containing archived Dior sketches from iconic fashion store – Bergman Goodman. I spent an hour just staring at these beautiful sketches and later realized they had more albums showcasing the sketches of many other genius design houses like Chanel, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Balmain and Cardin (what happened to Cardin? well, that’s another story). I have picked some of my favourite sketches (I’m Picky C after all, remember? :P). Here they are, enjoy.
Dior strapless evening gown in pink satin
Dior Trapeze Dress
Dior three piece gray suit
Balmain strapless red evening gown in pencil and watercolor
Chanel multicolored tweed suit with matching purple blouse
Lanvin unfitted coat
Now for some really beautiful, witty sketches by Bonnie Cashin. They speak so much about her personality as a very fashion fluent woman with a lovely sense of humor.
Bonnie Cashin "Cash and Carries" for Coach.
Bonnie Cashin Sketch- "False alarm tiger"
Bonnie Cashin - parabola cape
Bonnie Cashin - "Patchwork party" coat
All these sketches are property of The Department of Special Collection and FIT archives. Click here to see more.

Some people can stick to one perfume for day and night. I envy them because I tend to think a little too much as to what perfume I should wear depending on the time of the day. But I have to admit that there are perfumes that work for me all day and night. Which ones? You’ll find out :)
Daily ritual:
My usual day pick. (pic: my own)
VERSACE BRIGHT CRYSTAL
Donatella Versace got quite a few things right with this perfume. Firstly, the luminous bottle is a delight in itself. One of the most beautiful, graceful looking perfume bottles of the recent times. The fragrance is floral, distinct, sensual sheer, shiny, modern, feminine and lovely. I could go on but in short, it’s a perfect day scent.
Night in shining armor:
My poison (pic: my own)
DIOR MIDNIGHT POISON
Most definitely a leap in the right direction, although guessing Dior Hypnotic Poison outsells it by a mile! It lacks the strong theatrics of Hypnotic Poison and that’s exactly why I love it so much. It’s mysterious but not in the old fashion way. If you read the reviews, you’ll probably won’t bother trying it but take my word for it and try it. If you’re looking for something young yet feminine, sweet yet sensuous, playful yet mysterious then you’ll love this fragrance.
Also, if you understand perfume jargon(I definitely don’t) then this little description I got from www.fragrantica.com might help – “ The new Dior‘s poison is opening with citrus notes of mandarin and bergamot to the rose heart, and patchouli, amber and French vanilla in the base.” Or you can just watch Galliano’s vision for the perfume translated into this commercial. I’ll have to be honest and tell you that the perfume isn’t exactly as dark and mysterious but it’s just right. Try and tell.
All time favourites
CHANEL COCO MADEMOISELLE
It was a love at first sniff. To me, it stands for sophistication, confidence and musky-floral delight. Ahhhh I don’t think I’m doing justice…watch this video and you’ll know why I love it so so much. I can wear it to a work meeting, brunch as well as dinner for two. Unfortunately my bottle is over and can’t wait to get one. People actually used to stop to ask what perfume I was wearing(ahhh modesty) and some of my friends loved it so much that they too became Mademoiselle loyals! It’s hard to not love it.
DIOR J’ADORE
Brilliantly sensual, alluring, romantic and again it’s one of those perfumes that work beautifully at any time of the day. If you’re still doubtful about the scent then I’ll let Charlize Theron convince you.
To end, I would like to say don’t judge a perfume by its review as every fragrance works differently on different people. Let the daisies bloom on you.
