WIFW A/W ’12 My two cents –> ‘My Village’ by Rimzim Dadu

Yeah I know it’s been sometime since WIFW, another fashion week has come and gone, and I still have to do a few reviews. What can I say, I am a lady of leisure! Oh c’mon, wipe that smirk off your face, you’re just jealous!

Now let’s not digress any further and get back to the review. This one is tricky. It’s kind of awkward to be reviewing a friend’s show considering it’s turned out to be a kind of relationship that’s making my husband jealous or secretly excited, we’ll figure that out some other time. For now, I am going to dissect her show into three parts – me likey, me no likey and I say. Yup, I have an elegant way with words.

Me likey:

Rimzim Dadu, is one heck of a designer. Each piece during her WIFW A/W ’12 show was intricately handcrafted and showcased her futuristic sensibilities, finesse and the attention to detail.

The amazing use of treated wires and sequins, particularly the ones that looked like shiny strips of plastic with metallic finish, blew everyone’s mind away. The awe on people’s face was at times rather comical to look at.

It was interesting to see the use of dark, deep tones considering her usual inclination towards pastels. The look and make-up was mature and seductive.

Me no likey:

No matter how biased I may sound but I couldn’t point a finger at her collection. It was perfect! Having said that, I felt that the music and choreography weren’t completely in sync. In fact, the music was a bit distracting. (okay, this is what I meant by awkward!) Let’s move on to our next section.

I say:

Rimzim Dadu, Anand Bhushan and Kallol Datta are the three designers I am genuinely a big fan of. Two weeks before the show I met Dadu at her studio where I saw all these lovely sequins scattered all around. Little did I know that she was going to magically turn them into these utterly fabulous garments. This petite little thing is definitely the one to watch!

What do you think of her collection? Comment or tweet!

Shivan & Narresh Cruise-Resort 2011-2012 – A sneak peek

1

Finally India is about to have it’s own India Resort Fashion Week in Goa starting 7th Dec and among the designers I am really looking forward to are duo Shivan & Narresh. Not because I ended up at their studio with the lovely Rimzim Dadu last Saturday and had a great impromptu evening. Not because I am in love with the lights in their swank workstation. Not because they are in possession of a video with me dancing to “tututu tututara.” I am really looking forward to their collection simply because I have always admired their über haute swimsuits and resort wear, and the latest collection is just fabulous!

Here are some of my picks from their lookbook and their first fashion film – Forêt Noire, a sneak peek into the collection they are going to showcase at the IRFW. You go guys!

Man, Rimzim Dadu is the cutest and so is her Spring Summer 2012 collection showcased at Wills India Fashion Week! Intricate details, very very interesting use of plastic as jackets and butterflies, clean cuts, use of a variety of unexpected materials as textile, cutout dresses and oodles of innocence!  That pretty much sums up her collection. Here’s some visual dope!
