Congratulations Manolo Blahnik CBE to win Lifetime Achievement Award at British Fashion Awards 2012!!

Now we can’t possibly talk about Manolo Blahnik without talking about Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw’s love for his shoes :)

Remember the episode in which she shrieks, “Oh my God! Do you know what these are? Manolo Blahnik Mary Janes! I thought these were an urban shoe myth!”? Classic!

Carrie Bradshaw and her love for Manolo Blahniks is legendary (fictional, of course!)

The curious case of Julia Gillard and her shoes.

I am going to say this with a straight face – visiting Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard tripped and fell on the grass during her visit to Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial at Rajghat y’day. Now apparently it wasn’t the first misadventure with shoea and heels. She famously lost a blue suede shoe during an Aboriginal demonstration in Canberra in January. She was being whisked away from protesters and her footwear later turned up on eBay! More recently, according to Hindustan Times she slipped out of one of her shoes as she was taking the stage at an event in Sydney. She was reported saying she was distracted by admiring how another woman in higher heels had managed to negotiate the steps.

Anyway, the truth is that every woman who has tried to wear heels has fumbled. I have had friends who just won’t go out partying with me if I wore heels as they always had to carry my shoes while helping me walk to a cab. Alcohol kind of played a part in it but that’s another story. But wait a second why am I using the past tense? Just a few days ago, during Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week I was walking like a chicken in my heels. Kept tripping now and then (thankfully I didn’t fall) and eventually walked out of Pragati Maidan barefeet.

I wouldn’t say I didn’t laugh after watch Julia Gillard’s shoe tripping video (below) but a part of me went, “oh shit that could have been me!!!!” So basically what I am trying to say is ‘Julia (since I get you, we’re going to be on the first name basis now) I know heels can be total bitches but you gotta get into their inner circle of trust real quickly. Just ask mama Carla Bruni Sarkozy for a tutorial, I’m sure she’ll be happy to help!’ And one more thing, “Thank you for Masterchef Australia”

Shoe me love – Amazing Shoe Boxes

DropFrontShoeBoxLInenB_x

So my friend Shereen Harris has an absolutely enviable collection of shoes and I just found out that she has added a few more to it. I am currently nursing my jealousy for two reasons – One, she has fabulous new shoes (although I haven’t seen them, I am pretty sure they are stunning) and second, I have such tiny feet (size 5) that it’s really just my ego that stops me from buying shoes from the kids section. Thank god for insoles!!

Anyway coming back to Madam Harris and her shoes, the only problem that she’s now facing is that she doesn’t have fun shoe boxes to keep her heels safe and gorgeous. As a wonderful friend that I am, I have decided to sort her and many of you out with my absolutely unsolicited suggestions! Here they are:

If you love colours as much as I do, I suggest these lovelies. I am thinking of picking up some of these:

www.caraselledirect.com

You can find these on www.betterware.co.uk

And then there are some genius designers out there who look at every regular/everyday thing differently. One such designer is Naoto Fukasawa who organized the ‘BOX’ workshop + exhibition during the 2009 Tokyo Design Week (yes yes I do have a thing for all things Japanese, I do) called ‘without thought.’ The result was a series of thoughtful boxes. One such box was this shoe box designed by Aya Masuda. Now how bloody fabulous is this. I think I have just been hit by a DIY wave.

If you live in a city with an Ikea store or can order, I suggest these boxes with transparent covers as a cheap and simple solution. These can store a few pairs of flats or a pair of heels(up to 4-5 inches). Although these are available in many colours, I prefer white only because I have these only in white.

And of course there are these simple transparent boxes that do the job perfectly fine. You can easily buy them online. They are not exactly out-of-the-box but they help you admire your heel-friends even when you’re not wearing them.

We pick and buy shoes with so much love, it’s only fair we keep them gorgeous forever! Gosh, writing this post is making me crave some shoe-shopping. Damn it! *hides the credit card* I hate you, Shereen!

For the love of men!

Text by Sarah Coles – friend/ advertising junkie/ fashion enthusiast:

Whether you want to buy your boyfriend a Burberry coat or a pair of socks, there’s now an upmarket site for boys to look upmarket. No more complaining about not having as much choice as us girls. No – no more. Mr Porter has arrived and since we live in an age where most boys born after 1980 are metros, I’m sure it’ll do fabulous. Yes Mr Porter is here and he ships to India. He has finally followed his wife’s footsteps and is not ashamed to do so. Quite rightfully filling the sizeable gap in the market for men all over the world to finally have choice…style… and advice on fashion. A site they can look up to… design their own looks… manage wardrobe… share styles with their mates… and create wishlists… and….wow is this really a good thing?! I still like my man as the clueless Stella drinker thanks. However, bottom line – it’s a great site for us girls to buy great stuff for our beautiful, silly men.

Now for some of Picky C’s picks from Mr Porter. She claims if men in India dressed like this, they wouldn’t have to try nearly as hard.

PERSOLS - So hot!! Perfect for the Indian summer.

LANVIN TEXTURED LEATHER AND SUEDE SNEAKERS - Love 'em!

A great pair of sneakers deserve a great pair of jeans! Get these A.P.C STANDARD SLIM SELVEDGE JEANS

Because then, you'd look like this and we'd like that!

MR. BY ROLAND MOURET PLEATED SHORTS - why wouldn't I go out for coffee with you?

...more so if you'll wear those shorts like this.

And of course when you're driving us around town to woo us, these GUCCI LEATHER DRIVING SHOES will make the drive even more charming

Oh! CRAP

Last Sunday, after Kesh‘s stand up gig we went to our restauranteur friend Rahul’s lad pad for an after party. Apart from great wine, mad conversation and late night pizza, the surprise of the evening was his pair of craps. 80s influenced sunglasses from an up and coming brand called, well CRAP. When he told me about it I wasn’t sure what to expect but these glasses are nothing but an eye-full of fun (I know there’s no term like that). Of course we fooled around a little, here are some pics:

Sunglasses: CRAP, Violet silk balloon-sleeve tunic: Isolde, Black leggings: H&M, Orange knotted slingbacks: Clarks (pic: my own)

C'mon we're Indians, we all love a little drama! (pic: my own)

Take a closer look. (pic:my own)

Sarah Coles seems to love 'em.

Obviously I was too curious to not look up CRAP on the interweb. So I did. I found some great pieces in their look-book. Here are a few:

They've got a fun thing going.

Rahul has the same black glasses... now we know why!

Perfect beach glasses!! Make me wanna book a ticket to Bali right away.

You can browse through more designs at www.crapeyewear.com and you can easily buy them online from their webstore. A part of me is saying may be this isn’t really my style and the other half is saying “What CRAP!”
