The week that was!! Wills India Fashion Week

If you want to see the best that India wears head to Wills India Fashion Week. You’ll see Chanels and Jimmy Choos all around you! And of course the best of Indian designer wear. Sometimes I wonder if Chanel really sells those many bags in India but for optimistic reasons I would continue to believe that it does! Anyway, I am not going to post pics of Auntyjis showing off their LVs and Diamonds.

I wish I had clicked pictures of Varun Rana in those brilliant kurtas and Bandana Tewari on day 4 (or was it 5) in a Savio Jon champagne gold dress. Here are some pics from WIFW. More to come soon! I hope!

Edward Lalrempuia(right), Editor, Vogue India. Always stunningly dressed.

Dana Riad, a young designer from the Middle East, looking pretty in her own creation!

Wendell Rodricks with his Ferrari Bag. For once men were checking out a bag!

Dayna Spitz, Global Shopping Editor, Marie Claire. It was lovely talking to her.

That's me with Nil Das of Devrnil. Their show was great. Gutted I missed it. Oh and that shawl was much needed that day!

Jenjum is one of my fav new designer. Love how he teamed up those checks.

Designer Anupama Dayal in a dress from her own label.

Gorgeous Kalki (I don't know how to pronounce or spell her surname). Would have liked to see her in a not-so-casual dress honestly.

Rashi Verma, stylist Cosmopolitan, is always stunningly turned out! Love her sense of style!

Everybody loved this shift dress. She was shy to tell us that it was from Zara! Eeee why?

Someone actually wanted to be clicked with a blogger! Gleee!! Rasna(right), is studying fashion design. G'luck, girl :)

Wills India Fashion Week – All’s not well.

DSC04461

I lurrrrrrve Wills India Fashion Week! The energy, the madness, the clothes, the people… more or less everything except for the growing racism. I experienced and heard of so many instances almost on a daily basis. For example, before the finale the security went berserk. Everyone’s passes were checked and double checked and when I say everyone I mean everyone Indian or not so important looking. I appreciate security checks but with so many checks I could have flown to New York!

Anyway, so I was going up the escalator when the guy in charge checked my pass and then asked for it again to recheck. I obliged and joked about it and started going up. A second later I turned around to look for my friend who was following me, I saw a bunch of South Americans who just hopped on the escalator with a supremely snooty look on their faces and no passes in their hands. Guess what, the security guy didn’t make an extra effort to stop them while the designer friend of mine who was following me was refused an entry for not having a “proper pass.” Well after experiencing such bias throughout the fashion week I wasn’t surprised to see such what happened but that doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt. May be it hurts me more because I am a newbie blogger and a fashion scene fresher but honestly why should we go through it in our own country, during “India Fashion Week”? Answers, anyone?

Wills India Fashion Week Spring Summer 2012 – Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna

DSC04843

Oh I haven’t stopped smiling since the WIFW finale. We witnessed the most glamorous and gorgeous clothes at Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna‘s Theater of illusions!! They’ve raised the bar really high with their elegant collection consisting of skirts, dresses, trousers and sheer jackets made of mesh, voiles, silk yarns, organza and tulles! They had a few pieces for men that included skinny jeans and blazers. The show itself was supremely classy, modern and stylish – the music, the set, the choreography, the walk, the shoes, the lighting and those big-ass LCDs all around the stage worked together to create a very luxurious mood.

Even though in the beginning I was getting a bit impatient because of the delay but after the show I was thinking to myself that if I knew what was coming I would have waited even 5 hours without a word. A French buyer sitting next to me said the collection possibly surpassed some of the high profile designers at the Paris Fashion Week! Woot! Full love has happened! And unlike my perception of them, they are extremely friendly. Take a look at their super collection:
